Joe O'Donnell isn't here to give us 100% pure reality. Instead, he transports us to his own world, where pixels take on substance and paint digitizes into facades. One could say it's Impressionism 2.0, as the works offered by the Mancunian illustrator demand that the viewer reassess, fill in the angles, to see the whole picture. And beyond the striking graphic force that hits us at first glance, the charm of his animal subjects caresses with its simplicity. A dog here, a rooster there—isn't it the innocence of the world that comes to us through Joe O'Donnell's hand? A blissful smile, in any case, forms as an obvious reaction on the face of the one looking at his work.
